Prague, December 26 - January 3

Hello and Happy New Year to you all! Hope you all had a great holiday season, I know we certainly did. Christmas in Kiel was terrific and Santa was very kind to the two of us this year since we've been such good children. Really though, Melinda's family was extremely generous and made Christmas extra special for the two of us.
We left for Prague on a foggy morning the day after Christmas and spent eight wonderful days in the "city of a thousand spires" ringing in the New Year with friends. While there we saw all Prague had to offer: the Castle, Charles Bridge, Old Town and Wenseslas Squares, the Jewish Quarter and cemetary, the Mucha Museum, restaurants, bars, clubs, cafes, bookstores, shopping, fireworks -- you name it, we did it.

Thanks to all who helped make this holiday season so special for the two of us. We can hardly wait for you all to come and visit us and experience it for yourselves.

Much love,

-Britt & Melinda

You have to start your trip with a hearty breakfast (or in this case, a hearty mocha)...Bohemian Bagel is the BEST.

The rooftops of Prague.

Hiking to the Prague Observatory.

"It's much greener in the summertime."

A Roman rock gym.

The Prague Observatory.

Britt and I attended a Christmas concert inside of St. Nick's. And even though we were freezing, it was incredible.

A monastery.

View of Prague from the monastery.

The entrance to Prague Castle.

St. Vitus, located within the walls of Prague Castle.

St. Vitus

This in the entrance to St. Vitus where Wenceslaus was murdered by his brother.

Britt looks VERY excited to be crossing the Charles Bridge.

One of the statues on the Charles Bridge. I believe this is the Patron Saint of birds.

Charles Bridge

Street musicians on the Charles Bridge.

The Astronomical Clock. At the top of the hour (up till 8 p.m.) small windows open and the saints spin around.

Britt in Old Towne Square, with the Christmas market and Tyne Church in the background.

Three of the thousand spires.

St. Vitus at night. It's a bit hard to tell, but there are gargoyles leaning out over the top of the wall.

Walking down from Prague Castle.

Prague is filled with this-should-be-a-postcard photo opportunities.

No. 22, Golden Lane: Franz Kafka's apartment for a brief time.

This is the Jewish Cemetary. The Jewish community in Prague was only given a small amount of land in which to bury their dead, hence they had bury people on top of one another. Over time there just wasn't much room for headstones. An interesting note: All men who enter the cemetary must wear a yamaka.

This, believe it or not, is a Czech movie theater. We watched the dvd of Casablanca and had "As Time Goes By" stuck in our heads for hours.

This one is for mom!

Trying to pass the time on the train by writing TERRIBLE poetry.

Time to go home.

As we passed through Berlin we spotted this church. Notice the top.

Kiel, December 24

On Christmas Eve our friends Mike and Xavier hosted a little holiday get together for the ex-pats of English 2000 (name soon to be changed). We drank a frightening amount of grasshoppers and I believe Britt and I ate all the brie (Sorry!)

Feelin' rather festive!

Our hosts for the evening...Mike and Xavier.

Mike is setting up the projector to play our Christmas movie..."Saturday Night Fever".

What is Xavier saying???

We wish you a Merry Christmas!
